Are Tests the Best Way to Assess Students?

For decades, examinations have been serving as a gauge to analyze the intelligence of students. Whether it is the best way to assess a student is a subject that has been debated for a long time.  People are arguing both for and against the examination process. Exams, no matter what people's attitudes are, are still a widely used method of evaluating students. However, a number of changes are being made to make it more successful so that students are properly assessed.

Examinations are definitely a good way to assess students, but the problem lies in the execution and the way it is being conducted. The retention or understanding of concepts is trivialized and more importance is given to the marks gained by the students. Tests examine students' recall power rather than their mental understanding or grasping of the topics.  It has a negative impact on students as they focus mainly on the regurgitation of information instead of thoroughly understanding it. They complete the examination and forget the topics they learned in lectures or at school.

With the help of examinations, it is difficult to assess an individual's academic ability and intellect. What, then, is the solution? The solution is to devise a more effective method of evaluating students. The acquisition of information and the retention of that information is important in their future endeavours because they will enable students to get out there and do something new that will bring about a change in society.

Rankpedia has established an innovative assessment system that will let students brush up on their knowledge and fully comprehend the concepts. We assess students using Bloom's Taxonomy, which allows them to delve deeper into the subject and inspires them to develop something new and innovative. We are able to bring out the students' capabilities and talents in this way, enabling them to hone their skills.

They are given activities to help them put what they've learned into practice. Experiential learning works in this way because it allows students to connect real-life experiences to the concepts they are learning. We provide students with opportunities for hands-on learning, and our teaching methods enable students to learn beyond the theoretical aspects and to think outside the box.

The assessment of students should not be limited to the examination and its results. Education should inspire students to become better individuals who are capable of making informed decisions and securing a great future for themselves.

NEP 2020: Transforming the Indian Education System

The Indian government is reforming the Indian educational landscape with the introduction of NEP 2020. It focuses on the shift from conventional modes of education, which are based on the concept of rote learning. Its main objective is to integrate a competence-based learning approach where students are mentored in such a way that their skills and talents are refined in the best way possible. The NEP 2020 is in line with the UN’s fourth Sustainable Goal that focuses on making education accessible to every kid, irrespective of their economic status.  Traditional educational methodologies are based on the concept of rote learning. Furthermore, traditional evaluation procedures are ineffective since they employ a single yardstick to assess each and every student. It does not help a student to grow individually and upscale their unique capabilities. In a technologically advanced world like ours, it is imperative that students acquire skills that make them employable. Therefore, NEP 202...

How to Increase Learning Retention?

Learning retention is essential for students to use that learned knowledge in the practical world. You will see in the following paragraphs how the education system has evolved to improve learning retention among students. Learning can be improved in a variety of ways, and the information learned can be retained in your mind in a variety of ways. This is why it is necessary to come up with new tactics and solutions in order to boost your learning retention. In order to retain the information that you have learnt, you need to have a proper understanding of the concepts you learn. Unless and until you have a thorough understanding of the concepts you learn, your learning will go in vain. There are a l...

Why is Pi Day Celebrated?

Pi is one of the most significant mathematical symbols. March 14 is celebrated as Pi Day all around the world. There is a fascinating reason behind selecting this day to celebrate Pi Day. The first digit of pi is 3.14, hence Pi Day is observed on March 14th. Larry Shaw, an employee of the Exploratorium in San Francisco, announced the first Pi Day in 1988. Pi is an irrational number, which means the digits after the decimal is never-ending and non-recurring. However, for our convenience, the value of pi is considered as 3.14 or 22/7. Pi is the ratio of the circumference of the circle to the diameter of the circle, no matter how big or small the circle is. Whether the circle is coin-sized or planet-sized, the ratio of the corresponding circumference to the diameter, that is, pi will remain the same. To calculate most of the curved figures like a sphere, hemisphere, circle, ellipse, parabola, etc., pi is needed. According to the Guinness World of Records, “The most accurate value of...
